Planning and Zoning Code
- San Francisco Planning Code is periodically amended by the Board of Supervisors upon recommendation of the Planning Commission.
- Planning Code Interpretations are periodically updated by the Zoning Administrator.
- San Francisco General Plan is the strategic plan for long-term growth in San Francisco.
- Residential Design Guidelines provide a baseline for architects, designers, and engineers.
- Preservation Bulletins are periodically published by the Planning Department and provide guidance in historical and environmental preservation.
- Letters of Determination are project-specific applications of the Planning Code by the Zoning Administrator.

- 2010 San Francisco Building Code consists of the 2010 California Building Code with San Francisco Amendments.
- Administrative Bulletins are periodically published by DBI.
- Structural Bulletins are periodically published by DBI.
- Building Code Interpretations are periodically issued by DBI.
- 2010 San Francisco Electrical Code consists of the 2010 California Electrical Code with San Francisco Amendments.
- Electrical Code Interpretations are periodically issued by DBI.
- Informational Bulletins from EID highlight new changes.
- 2010 San Francisco Plumbing Code consists of the 2010 California Plumbing Code with San Francisco Amendments.
- 2010 San Francisco Mechanical Code consists of the 2010 California Mechanical Code with San Francisco Amendments.
- 2010 San Francisco Energy Code consists of the 2010 California Energy Code with no local amendments.
- 2007 San Francisco Housing Code is incorporated in the San Francisco Municipal Code, and is enforced by Housing Inspection Services (HIS).
- Historic alterations or renovations may incorporate the 2010 California Historical Building Code which contains alternative regulations for qualified historical buildings.
Fire Code
- 2010 San Francisco Fire Code incorporates by reference the 2010 California Fire Code (Title 24, California Code of Regulations, Part 9) and the 2009 International Fire Code.
